Osram’s Green and Blue Laser Diodes to be Distributed by ProPhotonix

ProPhotonix Limited, a designer and manufacturer of LED illumination systems, laser diode modules and a laser diode distributor, with offices throughout Europe and North America, announces that it now will offer the Osram Opto Semiconductors range of green and blue laser diodes.

The product range includes single mode green laser diodes PL520 with 50mW optical output in the 515-530nm range and PL 515 at 30mW output power at 510-530nm. The PL450B is a single mode blue laser diode with 80mW optical output at 440-460nm. All three single mode laser diodes are packaged in extremely compact, 3.8mm diameter TO cans and feature low beam divergence, long lifetime and excellent stability across a broad temperature range. Where the human eye perceives green light more readily than red light, these new green diodes will augment our application solutions in alignment and targeting for medical, industrial and defense markets. They also are ideally suited for use in pico projector and display applications. The blue diode lasers are ideally suited to many medical and analytical applications.

Higher power, multi-mode laser diodes like the PL TB450 with a massive 1.4W optical output in the blue 440-460nm range share the beam quality and lifetime advantages of their single-mode equivalents, with exceptional brightness.

Mark W. Blodgett, Chairman and CEO of ProPhotonix commented, "We are delighted to provide our customers new solutions by adding these innovative new products from Osram to our range of high performance red, infra-red and blue-violet laser diodes that we currently stock and distribute from Oclaro, QSI, Sony and Ondax. Many of our customers will benefit from the compactness and efficiency of these devices. In addition we expect to open up significant new markets which, until now, have been difficult to develop using established technologies. We are delighted to be working with Osram, which has made substantial investments in R&D designing these state-of-the-art laser diode products and currently operates one of the world's leading semiconductor fabs in Germany," said Blodgett.

Stephan Kreusel, Director Distribution Management Europe and Emerging Markets with Osram Opto Semiconductors said, "Our new partnership with ProPhotonix will enable us to accelerate growth in sales of these ground-breaking new laser diode products. ProPhotonix has an established reputation in the Medical, Industrial, Security and Defense markets and has recently expanded its technical sales team."
