Fujifilm’s Global OLED Patent Portfolio Acquired by Universal Display

Universal Display, a well-established OLED patent licensor and provider of materials and technologies for eco-friendly OLED displays and lighting, declared that the company has procured Fujifilm’s comprehensive worldwide patent portfolio of over 1,200 OLED patents and patent applications for a value of $105 M.

Following its decade long R&D efforts in the OLED field, Fujifilm has created new promising technologies in OLED materials and have developed devices based on OLED materials that resulted in OLED technology-based dynamic patent portfolio.

Universal Display has a long-term history of providing advanced technologies in the OLED industry in addition to gaining an established patent position in the OLED field. This acquisition initiative has enabled the company to license its patented OLED technologies.

Fujifilm and Universal Display have been discovering potential strategic relationships between both the companies. Based on a favorable strategic relationship, both companies are content with this acquisition of Fujifilm’s OLED patent portfolio. Following the acquisition of Fujifilm’s OLED portfolio, Universal Display can expand its current worldwide patent portfolio and also look out for new and exciting areas of OLED materials and future product development.

By adding more business initiatives, Fujifilm will continue to deliver its global OLED manufacturer customers with highly featured materials, including flexible substrates, barrier films, and conductive films. Universal Display will also expand its strong worldwide customer base. Fujifilm and Universal Display are now focused on improving and reinforcing their strategic alliance in the coming years.
