Ensphere’s Optical Transceiver Suitable for Thunderbolt Cables

Ensphere Solutions has announced the market entry of the first Thunderbolt active optical cables (AOC) using the Ensphere ESI-XVR10100 optical transceiver.

Founder and CEO of Ensphere, Hessam Mohajeri said that optical cable providers are aware of the major criteria that are essential while selecting high performance 10 Gbps optical engines. A uniform coordination of silicon CMOS performance, low profile products and low power operation will enable compliance with overall optical Thunderbolt design requirements. These first market-entry cables have selected Ensphere ESI-XVR10100 in recognition of the company’s design and delivery capabilities.

Sumitomo Electric Industries Executive Officer, Deputy General Manager Electronics Business Unit and General Manager of Electronic Wire Division, Shigeo Saito said that owing to its compliance with the overall design requirements the Ensphere ESI-XVR10100-based optical engine design has been salted by the firm’s first optical Thunderbolt cables.

The ESI-XVR10100 optical transceiver device can be easily and efficiently adopted for optical Thunderbolt cables with its two 10 Gbps lanes such as VCSEL compensation logic and on-chip thermal sensors that provide excellent overall performance. It allows OEM customers to pre-program special operating features into its OTP memory. Up to four devices can be effectively programmed for applications that entail wider parallel interfaces. The ESI-XVR10100 is now being offered in die form in production quantities.
