LightPath Launches Mid-Wave Infrared Fiber Collimator

LightPath Technologies, a worldwide manufacturer, integrator and distributor of optical products, has introduced a new Mid-Wave Infrared (MWIR) fiber collimator in its Infrared Optics product line.

The MWIR uses the company’s molded infrared aspheres and can be used in a wide range of applications such as for environmental sensing in gas analytical instrumentation and infrared countermeasures. It can be used as a collimating lens for Quantum Cascade Lasers and as beam expanding optics for MWIR fibers.

LightPath has manufactured the MWIR collimating lenses from its Black Diamond chalcogenide glass, which is less expensive than Zinc Selenide and Germanium optics.

The cost of MWIR laser sources have declined, while the infrared market is growing at a rapid rate. The MWIR collimating lenses are product expansions of LightPath’s advanced molded aspheres for laser collimation.
