OmniVision Introduces 3 MP CMOS Image Sensor for Smart Phone Applications

Advanced digital imaging solutions provider, OmniVision Technologies has unveiled its first 3 MP CMOS image sensor using its sophisticated 1.4 µ OmniBSI pixel architecture. The OV3660 is a new member of the company’s backside illumination (BSI) sensors portfolio.

The OmniBSI pixel architecture allows the OV3660 to provide high quality imaging such as 720 p HD video recording in a small optical format of 1/5".

The OV3660 provides 720 p HD video recording at a speed of 30 fps with features such as scaling, cropping and capturing 4:3 snapshot images, making end users to take both still and video images. The sensor provides regular compressed JPG pictures for still images, making the OV3660 compatible with a wide range of hardware platforms. The form factor of the image sensor allows direct inclusion into a 6.5x6.5 mm module and thus current 2 MP cameras can be upgraded swiftly and easily.

The OV3660 image sensor provides automatic image control features such as black-level calibration, auto 50/60 Hz flicker detection, white balance and exposure control. Noise cancellation, lens correction, edge enhancement, gamma, hue and color saturation are some of the additional functions of the image sensor.

According to Product Marketing Manager, Charles Chong, OmniBSI technology integrated OV3660 image sensor is ideal for advanced smart phone applications.
