austriamicrosystems Unveils AS3676 LMU for Portable Electronic Products

Designer and manufacturer of analog ICs, austriamicrosystems has unveiled the AS3676 LMU (Lighting Management Unit) that features Dynamic Luminance Scaling (DLS) and Ambient Light Sensing (ALS).

The AS3676 includes a programmable low dropout regulator, an analog-to-digital converter, a charge-pump, a step-up DC-DC converter, and 13 current sinks, all are which combined with advanced algorithms to provide highly efficient smartlight, funlight, keypad backlight, and display.

The new LMU, featuring advanced technologies, facilitates low system cost and the smallest printed circuit board solutions. All mobile lighting can be controlled with one chip, as all the main lighting features are integrated. The integration also lessens the time to market and simplifies the software and hardware development time. The AS3676 is ideally suitable for various mobile electronic products such as MP3 players, GPS devices, DVD players, and mobile phones.

Power saving through automatic backlighting adjustment is simplified to a great extent because the AS3676 LMU supports DLS and ALS. The LMU incorporates various inbuilt features such as audio sync function, pattern generation, and automatic dimming that ensure attractive visual effects with minimal load over the baseband processor. It can function in temperature between -30°C and +85°C and operates over a supply range of 3.0 to 5.5 V.

The Marketing Manager for Mobile Lighting Products at austriamicrosystems, Oliver Weber, stated that the AS3676 LMU reduces the design effort and provides optimum performance with its product differentiating lighting, and power efficient algorithms.
