World’s First Full Color Active Matrix LCD Made with Carbon Nanotubes

Unidym, Inc, a majority-owned subsidiary of Arrowhead Research Corporation, announced today the world's first full color active matrix LCD made with carbon nanotube (CNT) components. Quest for the Ideal Photonic Crystal

But now, University of Utah chemists have discovered that nature already has designed photonic crystals with the ideal, diamond-like structure: They are found in the shimmering, iridescent green scales of a beetle from Brazil.

Physicists Developed New Near-Infrared Broadband Laser Materials

A team of physicists in the Institute for Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Lasers (IUSL) of the Physics Department at The City College of New York (CCNY) have developed new near-infrared broadband laser materials with tunability ranges around triple those of earlier crystals.
