SWITCH Lighting has declared the availability of its full family of LED A-lamps. These newly-launched liquid-cooled LED A-lamps are compatible with any fixture, suitable for all orientations both indoor and outdoor. Following the 2011 launch of SWITCH’s innovative technology, the company has developed innovative LED lamps which will be exhibited at LIGHTFAIR.

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) recently declared their intent to create a prototype of solid-state laser weapon. These laser-based weapons will enable the sailors to combat small boat threats and aerial targets without the need for bullets. The prototype will however represent multi-mission capabilities of a Navy ship on board.

After more than ten years of work by more than 200 scientists and engineers, the MIRI instrument, which will fly on the James Webb Space Telescope (successor to the Hubble Space Telescope) is ready to be shipped to NASA. MIRI, a pioneering camera and spectrograph, is so sensitive it could see a candle on one of Jupiter's moons. Key components of MIRI have been designed and built at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg.
Advanced Scientific Concepts, Inc. (ASC) announces ASC's 3D Flash LIDAR range cameras have been chosen for the OSIRIS-REx planetary science mission that will study and return a sample of the carbonaceous asteroid 1999 RQ36 set for launch in 2016. The 3D Flash LIDAR cameras will be designed for determining the spacecraft range to the asteroid surface, as well as evaluating the approach to potential sample sites.

Alacron and its affiliate, FastVision, have announced that their ultra high speed camera, the FC300, is to be highlighted at the Advanced Imaging Association’s (AIA) trade show being held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA. Panavision Imaging (PVI) has provided the CMOS Sensor for the camera. Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s patented delta doping process has been incorporated in the new camera.
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) researchers have shown the bending of gamma rays generated by radioactive decay of atomic nuclei. Physical Review Letters states that in order to identify bending or ‘refraction’ at maximum energies, a common classroom experiment version with glass prisms was used by the team.
A team of researchers have resolved a non-invasive method by which the position of very small pancreatic tumors called insulinomas can be precisely detected. This non-invasive method of detection will allow surgeons to successfully achieve surgical removal of tumor growths less than 1cm in diameter.
