High Repetition Rate Advanced Petawatt Laser System to be Developed at Dolni Brezany in the Czech Republic

Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC, a team led by Bechtel and the University of California, has been granted an agreement worth more than $45 million to develop and deliver a state-of-the-art laser system for the European Union’s Extreme Light Infrastructure facility in Dolní Bøežany, near Prague in the Czech Republic.

Oclaro Commences Volume Production of Dual-Rate 100G CFP2 LR4 Transceiver

Oclaro, Inc., a leading provider and innovator of optical communications solutions, today announced that the dual-rate 100G CFP2 LR4 transceiver, which is fully-interoperable with the 100G CFP LR4 transceiver supporting both OTU-4 and 100GbE interfaces, has joined that module in volume production. Approximately 30 customers have already qualified or are in the process of qualifying the Oclaro 100G pluggable LR4 transceiver modules.

Green Photon Beams Enable More Precise Optical Manipulation of Macrostructures

Zebedee Mobile Laser Mapping System Creates 3D Map of Leaning Tower of Pisa

Developed by the CSIRO, Australia's national science agency, the Zebedee technology is a handheld 3D mapping system incorporating a laser scanner that sways on a spring to capture millions of detailed measurements of a site as fast as an operator can walk through it. Specialised software then converts the system's laser data into a detailed 3D map.

High-Tech Laser Cutter Capable of Etching Metals and Cutting Through Various Media

A new, state-of-the-art laser cutter stands in a room off of the Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts’ workshop on the second floor of Sewall Hall. The price tag: $8,000 — a fraction of the cost of a factory-built laser cutter. The “good deal” comes courtesy of seven Rice undergraduate students. They built the laser cutter in fall 2012 as part of Visual and Dramatics Arts Visiting Lecturer Mike Beradino’s The Art of DIY course.
