Toshiba to Begin Sample Shipments of TCM9518MD Dual Camera Module

Toshiba Corporation today announced that it will start sample shipments of “TCM9518MD”, for application in smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, on January 31, 2014. The new product is the industry's first dual camera module to incorporate twin 1/4 inch optical format 5-megapixel CMOS camera modules (5 megapixels x 2 arrays), which simultaneously outputs recorded images and depth data.

A new family of LEDs in a PLCC-2 package that can handle higher drive currents and thus produce improved luminous intensity is the newest product from the Optoelectronics group of Vishay Intertechnology, Inc.. The new VLM.334.. series LEDs, an advanced modification of Vishay's VLM.31.. series LEDs, can incorporate larger chips and are thus capable of withstanding drive currents up to 70 mA.

Scientists Investigate Optical Properties of Natural Pollen with Laser

Leipzig, Germany. Pollen reflects more sunlight than previously known, and makes up to one third of the total amount of aerosol particles in the atmosphere. Aerosol particles influence optical depth which provides a measure of the opacity of the atmosphere. These results, reported by scientists of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in Korea and the Leibniz-Institute of Tropospheric Research (TROPOS), are published in the research journal Atmospheric Environment. This study is the first to investigate the optical properties of natural pollen with a laser operating at 532-nm emission wavelength.
