FARO's All-New Laser ScanArm V3 with Enhanced Accuracy and Lighter in Weight

FARO Technologies, Inc., the world market leader in portable computer-aided measurement arms and laser tracker sales, announced it has released an all-new Laser ScanArm V3. Among the enhancements, the new technology is 30-percent more accurate, 33-percent lighter in weight, and offers better performance in scanning dark or reflective surfaces than the Company's V2 models.

"The V3 marks our third version of the Laser ScanArm product line and our third new product launch in four months," FARO President and CEO Jay Freeland said. "Although the Quantum and Fusion FaroArms and ScanArm all appeal to different markets, one thing they have in common is that all were born from feedback on what our customers need to succeed in the global marketplace."

The Laser ScanArm V3 - which is compatible with FARO's Platinum FaroArm and new flagship portable CMM, the Quantum FaroArm - offers several competitive advantages not found on any other device. The new design includes:

  • NEW - 30% more Accurate: 35 micron accuracy compared to 50 microns on V2.
  • NEW - Bluetooth(R) Cable-Free Operation: When equipped on the Quantum Series, users can scan up to 30 feet (10m) away without requiring cables or interface boxes.
  • NEW - 50% Faster Warm-Up Time compared to V2.
  • NEW - 33% Weight Reduction compared to V2.

"The greatest challenge scanning systems have is the ability to accurately model shiny or dark objects," Freeland said. "The new Laser ScanArm rises to that challenge, making it the ideal tool for inspection, point cloud-to-CAD comparison, rapid prototyping, reverse engineering, and 3-D modeling. It defies the limits of portable scanning technology and empowers FARO customers to bring top-quality parts and products to market more quickly."

Introduced in 2003, the FARO Laser ScanArm was the first-ever seven-axis contact/non-contact measurement device with a fully integrated laser scanner. It enables users to collect simple point variations with the Arm's hard probe, then laser scan sections requiring larger volumes of data - without the wasted time of adding or removing attachments, untangling cabling, or having to use and import data from a separate CMM.

Compatible with Geomagic, Polyworks, Rapid Form and many other third-party software programs, the new Laser ScanArm V3 makes its world debut at the 2007 EuroMold Show in Frankfurt, Germany and will be available for sale globally in February 2008.
