FARO Launches Focus3D Laser Scanner for Documenting Environments

Provider of portable imaging solutions, FARO Technologies has rolled out the new FARO Laser Scanner Focus3D. The laser scanner features instinctive touch screen control, making it convenient to function as a digital camera. It has been designed for documentation and detailed measurement applications. The scanner is suitable for reverse engineering, quality control of devices, and large environment documentation.

Focus3D Laser Scanner

The Focus3D laser scanner, with its 976,000 measurement points/second and millimeter-accuracy, provides accurate and effective method for 3D documentation of process plants, factories, product geometry, accident locations, crime scenes, facade and structural deformations, excavation volumes, and building construction. It weighs 11 lbs, and measures 9.5 x 8 x 4 in.

The Focus3D scanner utilizes laser technology to generate highly detailed 3D images of complicated environments in a quick time. The image obtained is an accumulation of numerous 3D measurement points in color that offers a precise digital reproduction of the present conditions.

The laser scanner deploys a color camera with parallax and automatic free color overlay to offer photo-realistic 3D scanning. Its Li-ion battery offers a maximum battery life of five hours. All the scanned items are saved inside a SD card, allowing easy data transfer to a PC. The Focus3D laser scanner is compatible with many software applications. The Focus3D’s scan processing software, SCENE, allows connecting the device to AutoCAD and various CAD applications, such as ArchiCAD, Nemetschek, Microstation, and Rhino.
