Vishay Introduces New IR Receivers for LCD Shutter Glasses

Manufacturer of infrared optoelectronics, Vishay Intertechnology has introduced new surface mount TSOP35D25 and TSOP75D25 (infrared) IR receivers, which are manufactured particularly for LCD shutter glasses that are used with 3D television sets.

The surface-mount receivers are incorporated into 3D glasses, where they get IR signals from the television set and assure that the LCD shutters close and open in a synchronized manner.

The new surface-mount receivers function on 25 kHz carrier frequency, which is less than the frequency used by standard remote control systems. They receive 3D synchronization signals from 850/830nm emitter, because the TV remote control receivers and emitters function at 940 nm wavelength. The receivers integrate a control IC, demodulator, band pass filter, automatic gain control, amplifier and a photodiode into a single package, helping in reducing the 3D glasses’ weight. As the receivers function at low carrier frequency along with a signal pattern, it helps in achieving a high signal-to-noise ratio.

The TSOP35D25 and TSOP75D25 receivers, like all IR receivers developed by Vishay, feature optical noise suppressions from plasma panels, LCD backlights, and compact fluorescent lights. A single emitter can be used in television to get more than 26 m of transmit distance, as the receivers get modulated synchronization signals compared to baseband signals. The receivers have a viewing angle of 50° and it can be mounted either in top or side view.
