Neon-Copper Lasers – Properties and Applications

Neon Copper lasers are known for generating deep ultraviolet wavelengths. The wavelength produced by this laser is 248nm. This laser is also known for having narrow oscillation line widths (less than 3GHz). Such narrow oscillations are best suited for fluorescence suppressed Raman spectroscopy.

Electric discharge is the pumping source. The lasing medium is copper vapour in neon gas as the buffer. Presence of neon buffer gas is required for attaining population inversion.

Applications of this laser are mainly in scientific research.
