eMagin, an innovator of OLED microdisplays and virtual imaging technologies, recently declared that the U.S. Navy has awarded the company with a $2.4 M worth contract for research and development of 2,000 x 2,000 px bright OLED microdisplay.
The Lux Research Energy Electronics Intelligence service titled ‘Cheaper, Brighter, Cooler: The Need for Cost Reduction Past the Package’ states that the overall costs of the central LED package will have over 70% decline in another 10 years.

Researchers have developed a novel technique for reducing the radiation dosage to destroy cancerous cells. Radiotherapy is a standard treatment for cancer. Radiotherapists apply varied doses depending on the severity of the tumor. Often, they have to apply very high doses to the whole tumor for effective treatment. This may cause side effects in the patients.

Researchers have demonstrated a new way of achieving negative refraction in metamaterials. Researchers belonging to the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel have collaborated to achieve the 'extraordinarily strong' negative refraction. They have reported a negative refractive index of -700.

Ernst & Young, a global professional services company, will be saving a lot by using Philips energy-efficient LEDs to light up its US headquarters in New York City.
