FDA Approve Device that Alleviates Pain During Cosmetic Laser Treatments

Candela Corporation today announced that it received an additional FDA clearance for the Serenity™ device using Pneumatic Skin Flattening (PSF™) technology. This clearance enables the use of the Serenity™ device for the reduction of pain during all laser and intense pulse light (IPL) treatments. According to Millennium Research, the worldwide installed base of laser and IPLs is estimated to be 70,000 worldwide.

Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena Offer Masters Programme in Optics in Science and Technology

When you talk optics you will have to say Jena. And when you talk about the scientific education of optical experts, the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena has a reputation acknowledged throughout the world. The university also is the only one in Germany and one of five partners from all of Europe, which, starting in the fall of 2007, will offer the masters-programme „Optics in Science and Technology“ (OPSITECH). This course of study is aimed at master students and university faculty from all over the world, who will be supported from EU-scholarships.

European Commission Looks to Abolish Anti-Dumping Duties on Energy Saving Light Bulbs

The European Commission has today adopted a decision to remove anti-dumping duties on energy-saving light bulbs from China in the next year. EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said: "The European Commission will recommend to Member States that it is in the interest of the EU to remove these duties in the next year. New Peltier Coolers For Lasers, Photonics and Sensors

announces a significant technology advancement in its ultra-small,
microchip thermoelectric coolers (TECs). The new MPC-D303 Series, one
of Micropelt’s smallest TECs with a cold side area of only
0.98 square millimeters (mm2), supports a
maximum temperature difference (delta T) of over 60 Kelvin (K). This
increased delta T opens possibilities for laser and photonic sensor
manufacturers whose applications require a large bandwidth of thermal
control.
