Advantech’s New PCI Express Vision Cards Provide GigE Vision Support

Advantech is pleased to announce the launch of four new PCI Express vision cards. The PCIE-1172/1174 are high end frame grabber models with a dedicated onboard ARM processor and the PCIE-1672E/1674E are entry level interface card models. Both series of cards use Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE), and support Power from the PCI Express bus.

PCI Express Vision Card

GigE Vision® is a global camera interface standard developed using the Gigabit Ethernet communication protocol. GigE Vision allows for fast image transfer using low cost Ethernet cables over very long lengths. With GigE Vision, hardware and software from different vendors can interoperate seamlessly over GigE connections. The inclusion of this standard on this series of vision camera cards ensures that there is no frame and packet loss and provides reliable and robust image acquisition.

Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) is provided on both card series and allows developers to reduce their installation and maintenance time by using just one cable from the PCIE card to the vision camera to transmit data and provide its power.

The PCIE-1174 and 1172 are four and two channel high end frame grabber models and include a dedicated FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) to reconstruct images before transmitting them in real time to the host PC via DMA (Direct Memory Access). This then frees up the host PC’s processor and ensures there is no frame or packet loss during image acquisition. To further aid installation and maintenance, this series also includes the use of Ad Hoc protocol which, like DHCP, doesn’t require a specific IP address and enables System Integrators (SI) to simply plug the camera in and go. To further aid system integrators, the PCIE-1174 and 1172 also supports Trigger-over-Ethernet (ToE), transmits the trigger command to the camera through the Ethernet cable and includes GENiCAMTM SDKs to develop applications for any attached camera.

The PCIE-1674E and 1672E are four and two channel entry level interface cards which include high performance, low CPU workload Intel I350 Ethernet controllers as well as PoE and the GigE Vision protocol.

The PCIE-1172 and PCIE-1674E are available now and the PCIE-1174 and PCIE-1672E will be available at the end of Q1.
