Siegman International School on Lasers to Take Place August 2015 in Amberg, Germany

The Siegman International School on Lasers is a week-long program that exposes students to in-depth learning of lasers and their applications from internationally recognized academic and industry leaders in the field. The scope includes all aspects of lasers and photonics. This program immerses the top 100 student applicants from around the world into an atmosphere of lectures, networking events, professional development programs, poster presentations and research sharing.

  • Presentations from well-known and pioneering laser researchers and experts from leading laser companies, including:

    • Jens Limpert, Jena, Germany
    • Clemens Kaminski, University of Cambridge, UK
    • Eli Kapon, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland

  • OSA Executive Speaker Series: Students will engage in an entertaining and informal conversation with luminaries from our industry as they respond to questions about their career paths, corporate observations and personal perspectives.
  • Professional development programming, including OSA Student Chapter presentations and networking opportunities.
  • Lab tours at Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL).

The Siegman International School on Lasers was established in honor of Anthony E. Siegman, 1999 President of The Optical Society, founding board member of The OSA Foundation and a widely known expert on lasers and optics. This program is co-founded by IPG Photonics and endowed by donors from around the world.

Hosted by the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, The Siegman International School on Lasers aims to provide high quality programming and professional networking opportunities for a select number of graduate students, as well as the instructors, over the course of one week in a campus environment. With the guidance of the Siegman School Steering Committee, the scope of each school will encompass aspects of lasers and photonics and can vary from year to year.
