Luminus Devices, along with Fraen Optics, has recently declared the launch of the FML series of optics. This FML series has been designed specifically to improve the efficiency of Luminus SSM-80 and SST-90 LEDs. This patent-pending new series of total internal reflection (TIR) optics combined with Luminus Big Chip LED technology to promote efficiency, power, and uniformity.
Coupled with SST-90 warm white LED of Luminus, the FML spot optic generates a full divergence angle below 10°. This high-performance is facilitated through Energy Star compliant efficacy and l7,000 cd. The FML series includes an overall optics range with output beam patterns such as elliptical, spot, narrow, wide, medium, and flood.
Luminus’ Global Director of Product Marketing, Chuck DeMilo, said that Fraen’s new FML optics is revolutionary and will enable the utilization of lumens from LEDs to achieve maximum levels of intensity, uniformity and efficiency. The combined technologies from Luminus and Fraen contributed to obtaining high lighting efficiencies using an LED that even surpassed a 50 W MR-16 halogen lamp.
With higher center beam brightness and optical efficiency in spot lighting applications, TIR optics are widely deployed than reflectors.
According to the Chief Operating Officer of Fraen Optics, David Cohen, this new optical series enabled the company to mark a milestone in physics. In this FML series, an advanced optical mixing chamber regulates the input from the LED to generate a uniform beam.
At the Light + Building exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, Luminus will showcase its novel offerings, including the new optics, from April 15 to 20, 2012.
