Mitsubishi Electric, developer of wide range of electrical and electronic devices, has developed an edge-lit flat-screen LCD TV that utilizes red laser diodes to enhance the color gamut.
In addition to the red lasers, the cyan-emitting LEDs also offer the backlighting function. The company plans to begin the commercial production of TVs in 2011 and the products will be initially launched in the Japanese market. The prototype LCD TV with a 46„c screen has a color gamut of 126%, according to the evaluation done by the National Television Systems Committee standards.
Mitsubishi Electric produces the red laser diode with a wavelength of 638 nm. Most of the technical specifications of the new prototype LCD TV are same as the company¡¦s white-LED backlit TV.
