JDSU Opens Optical Coating Manufacturing Facility in China

JDSU, provider of optical products and test and measurement solutions for service providers, has opened a new manufacturing plant in Suzhou, China.

The new plant will manufacture optical coatings for various markets such as theater projection, gesture recognition, sensing and 3D applications. The facility features new sophisticated optical coating devices. The company has invested over $20 million in the plant, which currently includes more than 50 employees.

JDSU’s President, Tom Waechter stated that the plant is an example of how the company collaborates with suppliers and customers in Asia. The company’s Senior VP of Advanced Optical Technologies, Roy Bie commented that the new Suzhou facility offers a platform for the company to develop its optical coating business.

JDSU also owns another optical coating plant in California that has over 300 employees. The facility handles manufacturing, sales and marketing. The company’s optical coating technology is utilized in various industries such as instrumentation, consumer electronics and aerospace.
