Four-Channel Constant Current LED Driver from Allegro MicroSystems

Developer of Hall-effect sensor ICs, Allegro MicroSystems has unveiled new constant current LED drivers. The LED devices are suitable for automotive applications, including puddle lighting, map, interior dome, rear combination lighting (RCL), tail, turn and exterior brake.

Constant Current LED Drivers

The A6264/ A6262/A6261 four-channel LED drivers meet the needs of the external and internal illumination in the automotive industry. The drivers can be placed in parallel position for higher currents, and can provide four channels at a maximum of 100 mA LED current. The LED drivers do not need ballast resistors and operate with a minimal dropout voltage to reduce power dissipation.

The current, selected by the user, is offered to four outputs and each output shares the load. The A6264/62/61 family has short to ground protection that disables the shorted channel to allow users to continue operation. The devices detect open LED on any type of channel.

The A6261/2/4 family includes a current foldback circuit that utilizes the chip junction temperature to protect the LEDs and IC and to foldback the LED current.
