Sick Rolls Out New Pin-Point LED for Packaging Industry

Developer of sensor solutions for industrial applications, Sick has launched the Pin-Point LED for packaging industry applications. The new product provides better precision and brightness than short-range laser scanners.

The Pin-Point LED solution considerably broadens the performance and range of the photoelectric proximity and LED-based photoelectric switches of SICK.

The LED design bolsters the light spot intensity, and focuses the energy on a smaller region. It also has the potential to function over longer ranges, provide enhanced reliability, and higher functional reserves. The photoelectric switches, by utilizing Pin-Point LEDs, can identify very small objects, over a maximum distance of 500 mm. This offers an efficient alternative to laser diode photoelectric switches.

The Pin-Point LEDs lasts two times more than the laser diodes, with a lifetime of 100,000 hours, and a more broad temperature operating range. The new development has changed the traditional LED design, by taking away the bonding wire present at the Led tip. The uniform intensity of the Pin-Point spot enables an accurate and tighter focus. The concentrated light helps in overcoming dirt and contamination that can get accumulated when in use.
