New 3303 Ethernet Media Converter from GAO Fiber Optics

Provider of fiber optic measurement and test instruments, GAO Fiber Optics, has introduced a new Ethernet media converter that is specifically designed to transform data signals between 100 Base-Fx and 10/100 Base-Tx Ethernet. This conversion of data signals increases the distance between network data transmissions.

The 3303 media converter complies with the IEEE802.3u specifications and can be utilized as a slide-in or stand-alone unit for a 19” converter rack. The Plug and Play converter supports both half-and–full duplex communications and has remote diagnostic capabilities. The media converter has a 2k MAC address list and a 512 kB SSRAM buffer, and uses an advanced switch chip design.

The Ethernet media converter transports data at 100 Mbps speed within 2-20 km, and can be used with 100/140, 62.5/125 or 50/125 µm multi-mode fiber or 10/125, 9/125, 8.7/125 or 8.3/125 µm single-mode fiber. In addition, store-and-forward mechanism, auto-update, auto-learning, address and broadcast filtering functions are also available.
