NeoPhotonics as Top Supplier of Optical Components

NeoPhotonics today announced in conjunction with the China International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE) that sales figures from 2006 thru 2Q 2008 have established the company as a top supplier of optical components -- for fiber access, metro and long-haul optical network equipment -- to Huawei, one of the world's largest suppliers of telecommunications network equipment (Huawei reported contract sales of US $16 billion in 2007).

Project Astronomers and Engineers Say LSST Mirror Blank is Perfect

The LSST, or Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, a large survey telescope being built in northern Chile, requires three large mirrors to give crisp images over a record large field of view. The two largest of these mirrors are concentric and fit neatly onto a single mirror blank. The single-piece primary and tertiary mirror blank emerged from the oven at the University of Arizona’s Steward Observatory Mirror Lab in Tucson, AZ, where team members gathered to celebrate this major milestone.
