New Lighting Controller from Cavet Reduces Power Consumption by Fluorescent Lighting Systems

Cavet Technologies Inc. today launched the LumiSmart ILC(TM) - Intelligent Lighting Controller - a purpose-built solution that dramatically reduces power consumed by fluorescent lighting systems with no impact on occupant comfort.

The solution is designed for industrial, commercial and institutional properties and can be installed within minutes, providing minimal disruption to daily business activities.

"Lighting in commercial, institutional and industrial buildings often represents as much as 40 per cent of the total electricity costs for those facilities worldwide," said Albert Behr, President and CEO of Cavet Technologies. "Cavet's patented LumiSmart ILC dramatically reduces these high costs within minutes of its installation. We believe Cavet's LumiSmart ILC sets the new standard as the most cost-effective commercial lighting energy-reduction solution available today."

To bring this revolutionary product to the global market, Cavet Technologies has engaged Celestica, a global leader in the delivery of end-to-end product lifecycle solutions, to manufacture LumiSmart ILC. With the LumiSmart launch, Cavet Technologies is also announcing distribution in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Mexico, the Caribbean, Brazil, and United Arab Emirates. LumiSmart ILC will be produced at Celestica's Toronto manufacturing facility.

LumiSmart ILC is the first of a new class of Smart Grid-enabled lighting controllers that provide microprocessor-driven adaptive control of lighting circuits to reduce power consumption while providing an instant 30 per cent or more power reduction without replacing any existing lamps, ballasts or fixtures. The LumiSmart ILC is Internet-ready (with the addition of the upcoming LumiSmart DRC - Demand Response Control module) and will enable full remote "command and control" for utilities, property managers and customers, allowing for on-demand reaction to real-time electrical events. Cavet's LumiSmart ILC also helps reduce carbon emissions by actively reducing energy consumption at the source, and therefore minimizes strain on the electrical grid. This decrease in carbon footprint results in a reduction in greenhouses gases released into the atmosphere.

"Energy efficiency is now a leading cleantech category, and lighting is one of the most important efficiency sub-sectors," said Dallas Kachan, principal of Kachan & Co., an international cleantech research and consulting firm that has published a report examining Cavet's LumiSmart. "Our analysis shows LumiSmart is differentiated from other lighting controllers, and the utility and other customers we talked with for our study are enthusiastic about their evaluations of it," he said.

Benefits of LumiSmart ILC

LumiSmart ignites a new way of thinking about energy efficient lighting solutions and offers a number of energy and costing savings benefits, including:

  • Maintaining light level quality with reduced energy consumption;
  • Providing a positive impact to net income through energy bill reduction;
  • Delivering a return on investment from 12 to 24 months, depending on the lighting system;
  • Offering energy reduction data that is quantifiable, measurable and traceable;
  • Providing CO2 emissions that can be tracked and reported;
  • Reducing electricity consumption of 30% or more, subject to facility requirements;
  • Offering a Smart Grid-enabled device that is ready to connect to any; and
  • Supplying Smart Grid utility (Smart Grid module).
