Atmel mXT224 maXTouch Touchscreen Controller Named One of Hot 100 Products

Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) a leader in touch- and microcontroller-based solutions, today announced that EDN Magazine has recognized Atmel's mXT224 maXTouch™ touchscreen controller in its Hot 100 Products for 2009.

The EDN Hot 100 products are an annual compilation and publication of the industry's best and most significant electronic products selected by EDN's editorial staff since December 1999. The EDN product review for Atmel's mXT224 touchscreen controller is available at http://www.edn.com/article/CA6699917.html.

Atmel capacitive touch is changing the way people interact with technology, friends and the world with this technology. As a chipmaker in the 'heart' of consumer devices with its low-power microcontrollers for portable applications and touch technologies, Atmel's maXTouch family of capacitive touchscreen controllers are capable of supporting an unlimited number of unique simultaneous touches with a refresh rate of 250 Hz to give the user an instant response. The mXT224 controller also features Atmel's patented charge transfer technology which enhances traditional mutual and self-capacitance solutions, substantially enhancing all key aspects of the industry's existing highest performance solutions. In addition, Atmel's mXT224 is the first capacitive touchscreen solution able to support the touch of a finger, stylus or fingernails for drawing or signature capture and character recognition—and is so sensitive that it can even detect touches from a user that has gloves on.

"The selection of Atmel's mXT224 by their prestigious editorial staff to EDN's Hot 100 Products in the Microcontrollers and Processors category is an honor for us," said Chris Ard, senior director of marketing for touchscreen products at Atmel Corporation. "This recognition highlights the many differentiating functions in Atmel's maXTouch touchscreen controllers including low power, high performance, advanced touch screen functionality and precision. Atmel's mXT224 is so powerful, it can track and reject unintended touches, report complex multi-touch gestures, and is fast enough to support handwriting and shape recognition on mobile phones, mobile Internet devices (MID) and Netbook screens in screens as large as 10 inches."

"To choose the 2009 lineup of the EDN Hot 100, EDN's editors examined thousands of new products across 16 product categories," said Rick Nelson, EDN editor-in-chief. "The Atmel mXT224 maXTouch touchscreen controller and AT91CAP7L microcontroller were among the outstanding product introductions in our Microcontrollers and Processors category," he added.
