PPG Industries Appoints Augen Optics as Distributor of NXT Rx Performance Sunlenses

Intercast Europe, S.r.l, a business of PPG Industries, has appointed Augen Optics as an authorized distributor of NXT Rx performance sunlenses.

NXT Rx sunlenses address the needs of both the premium fashion and performance sport sunwear markets. An innovative combination of Trivex lens material by PPG and Light Management Technology from Intercast, NXT Rx sunlenses offer high optical quality, ultra-lightweight comfort and impact resistance coupled with color uniformity and advanced light filtration. NXT Rx sunlenses are available in grey, brown and green, as well as in four photochromic dark-to-darker colors and two mirror-coated options, all providing 100-percent ultraviolet (UV) protection.

“The prescription sunwear market is very dynamic, and NXT Rx sunlenses represent the most innovative product available in the sunlens category,” said Christine Camsuzou, PPG general manager, optical materials. “This partnership between Intercast and Augen is an excellent opportunity to provide consumers with a unique sunlens that can meet all the demands of an active, outdoor lifestyle.”

The addition of NXT Rx sunlenses complements Augen’s wide range of products made with Trivex material, which includes Centurion Series progressive and single vision lenses available in Trivex material and Transitions lenses made with Trivex material.

“Our goal is to provide the highest quality lenses by combining state-of-the-art lens designs with high-tech Trivex material,” said John Potocny, Augen Optics senior vice president. “Adding NXT Rx sunlenses to our product mix expands our availability of exceptional lenses made with Trivex material while offering the best sun protection and performance.”

NXT Rx sunlenses are compatible with all frame materials, are highly resistant to solvents and lend themselves to rimless drilling without the risk of stress cracking.

PPG is the world’s leading maker of optical resins, having introduced the first plastic lens material, CR-39 monomer, in 1945. In 2002, it introduced Trivex lens material, the first material to provide high optical quality, ultra-lightweight comfort and impact resistance. It is majority owner of Transitions Optical, the leading supplier of photochromic lenses to optical manufacturers worldwide, and it is the owner of International Polarizer, a leading manufacturer of sunglass polarizer, and of Intercast Europe S.r.l., a leading manufacturer of sunlenses.
