New RGB MicroSIDELED Offers Outstanding Brightness

The new RGB MicroSIDELED® from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors features an ultra-slim design and delivers high brightness for in-coupling into light guides designed for backlighting in space-sensitive applications.

“The new RGB MicroSIDELED® is only 0.6 mm high and offers outstanding brightness with an extremely thin form factor for use in side in-coupling light guides used to backlight very thin displays such as mobile phones and laptop LCDs,” stated Ellen Sizemore, director, LED/IR marketing, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, Inc. “The streamlined SMT packaging makes it easier to specify high brightness LEDs into very compact display configurations.”

Featuring three individual color chips, OSRAM’s new RGB MicroSIDELED® offers the highest color gamut in the industry, delivering more than 100% of NTSC on screen, depending on the used LCD. It is ideally suited for applications where extremely vivid colors are preferred such as mobile phones, laptops, navigation systems and microdisplays. It also features an industry-leading high efficiency green delivering 1,000 mcd at 20mA with a power efficiency of 50 lumens per watt.

The new RGB MicroSIDELED® offers excellent thermal resistance as each chip has its own thermal contact lead. Additionally, the LEDs can be driven in series, allowing for greater freedom in electrical design. With a compact package size of only 5.0 x 1.4 x 0.6mm, the mercury-free and RoHS-compliant RGB MicroSIDELED® is the ideal solution for any display where space constraints are a concern.
