Leading Supplier Issued Patent for LED String Driver Architecture

O2Micro® International Limited, a leading supplier of innovative power management, and security components and systems, was issued 10 claims under United States patent number 7,339,323 for its LED String Driver Architecture.

O2Micro’s patented invention is used to drive an LED string. Product applications to drive battery gauge LEDs include cell phones, digital cameras, notebook computers, electric vehicles, power tools and other portable devices.

“This LED string driver architecture used in battery ICs employs numerous switches coupled to the LED string to individually control the LEDs. The serial LED configuration results in the same current and brightness for each LED, and saves external components and board space. Additionally, there is lower power dissipation inside the driver IC,” explains William Kao, vice president, O2Micro.
