TAG Optics Receives Prism Award for Ultra High-Speed Variable Focus Device

TAG Optics Inc. is pleased to announce that its ultra high-speed variable focus device, the TAG Lens 2.0, has been selected as this year's Prism Award winner in the category of Optics and Optical Components. This prestigious international industry award is presented each year by SPIE (the International Society for Optics and Photonics) and Photonics Media to the best new innovations marketed in the preceding year as judged by a large panel of industry experts and key opinion leaders.

Now in its fifth year, the Prism Award received a record number of applications for 2013, and has grown to become the premier recognition for innovation and new product development in the photonics industry. Other finalist in the category of optics and optical components included the HyperFlux spectrometer from Tornado Spectral Systems and an anti-reflection surface treatment by TelAztec.

"We are thrilled to have received this international recognition, validating our technology and showcasing the TAG Lens 2.0 as a revolutionary innovation in the field of optics and photonics," said Christian Theriault , President and CEO of TAG Optics Inc. Theriault went on to say, "We are very proud of what we have accomplished and excited to be expanding the opportunities for the diverse markets supported by the optics industry."

The TAG Lens 2.0 is the first commercial device to take advantage of TAG Optics' proprietary technology that establishes a variable focus lens by sending sound into a liquid, creating a low aberration optical element with no moving parts and exceptional high-speed scanning ability. Capabilities include increasing the depth of field of conventional optics and providing user-specified focal lengths and z-scanning with sub-microsecond temporal resolution. Thanks to its patented mechanism of action, the TAG Lens 2.0 can be incorporated into almost any optical system to increase its capabilities but without compromising the original functionality. The Company's technology has been shown to provide tremendous advantages across multiple verticals including laser materials processing, high-throughput industrial scanning, and biomedical imaging.
