TRW Automotive Holdings has received its first contract for delivering its video camera sensor to a major European company manufacturing trucks to enable sensing capabilities such as automatic emergency braking (AEB) and lane departure warning (LDW) as required by the European Union directive.

According to the contract, the TRW will commence its supply of video camera sensors during late 2012. Apart from the video camera sensors, the company will also supply the integrated scalable camera, processing devices and compatible software. The TRW’s video camera sensor device can perform the lane departure warning (LDW), recognition of traffic signals, headlight control, object sensing and forward collision warning. The AEB operation can be performed using the TRW’s video camera sensor integrated with a radar.
Peter Lake, sales and business development’s Executive Vice President for TRW Automotive Holdings, stated that since the commercial truck manufacturing industries are stepping forward in complying with pending laws, the company can fulfill their requirements by supplying the video cameras integrated with radar hardware, along with the developed software that ensures safe decision by sharing of information between the ecological sensing devices.
The European Union directive will demand the fixing of AEB and LDW systems in the latest trucks and heavy duty vehicles that are to be launched in Europe from late 2013 and 2015 respectively.
