OmniVision Unveils HD Image Sensor with OmniBSI-2 Technology

OmniVision Technologies, a pioneer in innovative digital imaging solutions, has introduced its OmniBSI-2 technology-based 1/6" high-definition (HD) image sensor called the OV9770.

The OV9770

The OV9770 with high sensitivity, superior color reproduction and image quality offers 720 p/30 HD video capture to future-generation tablets, notebooks and portable media players. It is the first HD sensor to utilize the 1.75 µm OmniBSI-2 pixel. This pixel pattern, developed by a 300 mm copper procedure utilizing 65 nm design specifications, will enable development of a novel range of next-generation products.

The new pixel delivers a 20% enhancement in low-light performance, a 50% rise in full-well capacity and a 20% increase in peak quantum efficiency over the first-generation OmniBSI pixel. These benefits together provide superior overall sensor performance and eventually an improved experience to the end user.

The OV9770 features an optimal die size, consumes minimum power and offers image quality enhancements and superior performance compared to other HD sensors available in the market. It can capture images with complete 1280 x 720 resolution at a frame speed of 30 fps with no image artifacts or degradation due to cropping or scaling. It features a serial camera control bus interface to provide full-frame, windowed or sub-sampled 8-bit and 10-bit RAW format images and offer all necessary imaging processing capabilities such as defective pixel canceling and exposure control.
