POINTek to Deliver Passive Optical Products for Defense Applications

Provider of PLC-based optical packaging service and optical components, POINTek has proclaimed a new passive optical business line for defense applications.

As per the terms of an exclusive supply deal with a prominent client, the company will produce the optical product using the planar waveguide technology. The company will initially deliver the optical products worth $10 million for the next several years.

Under the terms of the deal, the customer will be responsible for the costs related to the production and measurement devices for the products. Another supply deal of the same volume will take place in next year. The optical product business has the capability to expand into larger volumes in the coming years.

The optical business line will endorse the research and development activities of POINTek and will help develop groundbreaking products and enhance the existing athermal AWG product portfolio.

TH Rhee, Chief Executive Officer of POINTek, stated that the company’s expertise in the optical packaging technologies is the major factor behind the new supply agreement. The customer inspected the new production plant at Seongnam, close to Seoul and was convinced that the company is capable of providing optical products and packing services, Rhee said.
