Electronic and electrical equipment manufacturer, Mitsubishi Electric, has unveiled a new, advanced 638 nm red laser diode for pico projector applications. The ML520G72 laser diode is also suitable for other display systems that require a bright red light source.
ML520G72 red laser diode
The ML520G72 laser diode has an output power of 500 mW and delivers a luminous flux of 60 lm. The former aids in developing LED-based projectors. The laser diode can provide 32% conversion efficiency at 500 mW and at 25°C case temperature. Better conversion efficiency increases the life of the battery and reduces electricity consumption.
The ML520G72 can generate about 500 mW continuous wave power over -5°C to +40°C temperature range. The laser diode can deliver 600 mW pulsed laser light at 50°C when functioning a 25% duty cycle at 50 Hz frequency. The threshold current is 170 mA for a continuous wave operation at 25°C, while the operating current is 680 mA at 500 mW/2.3 V. The ML520G72 is available in a 5.6 CAN package.
