Roland and CGS Publishing Technologies International Team Up

Roland and CGS Publishing Technologies International have teamed up for a strategic partnership to take important edge technologies to the graphics industry.

At first, the partnership covered the packaging market and  created a new solution that incorporates CGS’ patented  software called ORIS Color Tuner // Web with Roland’s VersaUV LED-UV inkjet printer/cutter, which has won the DPI award. The solution enables businesses to produce flexible packaging contract halftone proofs with high levels of accuracy, on almost any substrate at substantially lower costs compared to existing laser systems.

CGS Publishing Technologies’ CEO, Trevor Haworth has stated that since almost the last 30 years, Roland has provided pioneering technologies to innovative professionals. He also added that the company’s new solution has been extensively employed in Japan, providing new productivity levels, quality and cost efficiency to businesses.

The 30” VersaUV LEC-330 is capable of printing on a wide range of substrates and incorporates Roland’s well-known print/cut technology, which functions as a single device that facilitates contour cutting and precision printing seamlessly in a single workflow. Besides printing CMYK and white inks, VersaUV also prints clear coat, which can be made into layers to give matte and gloss finishes, special effects and exclusive textures. Roland ECO-UV inks provide a broad color range and continue to be flexible to back up the manufacture of samples for packaging.

The CGS ORIS Color Tuner // Web software comprises a latest driver backing up VersaUV’s entire color gamut. The ORIS ScreenDot feature enables the processing of 1-Bit imagesetter-data directly, generating completely accurate color halftone proofs. Users can identify issues with screening, such as artifacts and moirés, early in the production, thereby helping avoid expensive remakes.

With the help of ORIS ScreenDot Plus, halftone proofs can be generated without using 1-Bit data.

The general manager and vice president of Roland DGA, Rick Scrimger has stated that CGS has created norms for color management throughout the graphics industry. Also, he added that the company’s efforts will bring new solutions for display graphics and large format printing. Scrimger added that Roland is working with CGS towards incorporating the ORIS solution with various Roland inkjets such as the VersaCAMM VS-640 64” 8-color printer/cutter supporting metallic silver and white inks.
