Connexion Technologies Deploying Corning® ClearCurve™ Products in MDU Installation

Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Incorporated's Telecommunications segment, announces that Connexion Technologies is deploying products from Corning's revolutionary ClearCurve™ product suite in a West Palm Beach, Fla., multidwelling unit (MDU) installation. Connexion Technologies, one of the nation's premier fiber optic amenity companies, is taking advantage of ClearCurve optical fiber, the product offering's truly bend-insensitive optical fiber, which results in virtually no attenuation loss even when bent to a minimum bend radius of 5 millimeters (mm).

As a market leader, Connexion Technologies is deploying fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks on a wide scale. They are utilizing Corning Cable Systems' ClearCurve Rugged Drop Cable in the MDU deployment. The 4.8-mm-diameter cable offers significant protection of the optical fiber, with a self-bend-limiting feature that prevents the fiber from exceeding the 5 mm minimum bend radius no matter how the cable is bent. Therefore, the cable can be handled in any way that copper communication cables are handled, such as pulling through wall studs and stapling to wood.

"I cannot overstate the increase in efficiency of installation and quality of service for our partners due to the development of the ClearCurve products," said Glen Lang, chief executive officer of Connexion Technologies. "This is a breakthrough product that will dramatically impact the economics of the FTTH industry."

"This installation is a positive step not only for Connexion Technologies, but also for the telecommunications industry as a whole," said Bernhard Deutsch, director of marketing and market development for Corning Cable Systems. "It is exciting to see broad acceptance of this revolutionary technology by companies like Connexion Technologies that understand the installation challenges of FTTH, specifically in MDU environments."

Corning's ClearCurve solution is based on its nanoStructures™ fiber design which makes the optical fiber cable as rugged as copper cable and solves historic technical challenges for telecommunications carriers installing FTTH networks in high-rise apartment buildings and condominium complexes. The solution breaks the barriers of current optical fiber installations that lose signal strength and effectiveness when bent around corners and routed through a building. Corning ClearCurve™ optical fiber, cable and hardware and equipment products solve these installation challenges, enabling telecommunications carriers to design optical fiber cable into these complex environments and provide their customers the near infinite bandwidth benefits of a true FTTH solution.
