New Moonstone Low-Profile Power LED Offers Improved Lumens Per Watt Efficiency

Avago Technologies, a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, today announced the addition of a new 1-Watt warm white Moonstone(TM) power LED emitter for use in a variety of architectural, commercial, spot light, task, backlighting, and decorative lighting applications.

Avago’s ASMT-MY09 LED features a low profile design and delivers high flux output of up to 95 lumens (lm) at 350mA drive current. Moreover, this new warm white power LED from Avago will enable lighting application designers to achieve greater lumens output without sacrificing lumens per Watt efficiency by using higher drive currents.

Available in one of the industry’s thinnest packages, Avago’s ASMT-MY09 is an energy efficient LED emitter that’s encapsulated in a heat and UV resistant silicone compound for high reliability and long life. This competitively priced Moonstone warm white LED emitter provides designers of solid-state lighting applications with a wide viewing angle radiation pattern, and superior heat dissipation. Moreover, this new warm white LED is ideal for use in lighting applications where height is a constraint. Typical applications include architectural façade lighting, track lights, spot lights, and decorative lighting applications.

Commercial lighting, as well as task and decorative lighting applications, require LED packages capable of emitting high light output. As a result, lighting equipment manufacturers are constantly in need of brighter, more reliable high power LED packages. Avago’s ASMT-MY09 LED offers high reliability and is available in color temperatures ranging from 2,600K to 4,000K to meet these lighting needs.

Avago’s ASMT-MY09 is a high performance energy efficient device which can handle high thermal and high drive current. With an exposed pad design on the back of the package, it has low thermal resistance and is able to efficiently transfer heat from the package to the motherboard to maintain long term reliability. Moreover, the ASMT-MY09 is compatible with standard SMT reflow soldering processes to provide lighting designers with more freedom and flexibility in designing their applications.

In addition to its slim profile, high-brightness, and long life, Avago’s ASMT-MY09 series of 1W LEDs provide a significant advantage in the production environment: They can be easily soldered using conventional surface mount techniques to minimize production costs.
