Focuslight Announces High Peak Power Laser Module for Flash LiDAR Applications

Focuslight technologies, a global provider of high power diode lasers and micro optics, has announced the Focuslight FocusFlux® AL01 Series LiDAR laser module at SPIE Photonics West 2020.

The FocusFlux AL01 series is a high peak power, 1064 nm laser module that employs a novel, compact, solid state design. It features a 1.5 mJ 3 ns laser pulse based on Q-switch technology. Built-in advanced glass diffusers enable it to generate a configurable field of view (FOV) of 125x25, 60x45, or customized per request. This allows a large FOV to be captured in one frame in a few nanoseconds and an entire 3D point cloud to be output. The FocusFlux AL01 is engineered for automotive LiDAR and industrial applications. It is designed with special materials and processes to meet automotive grade reliability, production, and quality requirements.

"Designing with mechanical or line scanning LiDAR can result in time delays and distorted images when performing high-speed object detection," said Kenneth Ferree, VP of Sales and Marketing at Focuslight Technologies. "Flash LiDAR has become a promising alternative for automotive and industrial applications with unusually large fields of view and shorter detection ranges. The FocusFlux AL01 is designed and qualified for Flash LiDAR applications, as well as other LiDAR technologies. Unlike other 905 nm lasers or VCSELs, the FocusFlux AL01 combines high peak power with the ability to output an entire 3D point cloud in one laser flash in a few nanoseconds. Similar to other 905nm lasers, beam shaping by the FocusFlux AL01's built-in diffusers converts the output to eye safe lasers."

The Focuslight FocusFlux AL01 is designed with special materials and an assembly process that meets automotive grade reliability, production, and quality requirements. It is able to lase as usual under high temperature (+80 C) and low temperature (-40 C), as defined and required by automotive standards. This enables users to comply with automotive requirements at a system level.

Customization and qualification for specific customer application are available upon request.
