CFE Leases 20,000 KM Fiber Optic Network to AXTEL

Axtel, S.A.B. de C.V., a fixed-line integrated telecommunications company, and Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), announced today the signing of an agreement through which CFE will lease its fiber optic network to AXTEL, thus increasing AXTEL's integrated services capabilities.

With this agreement, AXTEL will have the ability to provide additional virtual private network (VPN) and data services via CFE's extensive fiber optic network.

"By virtue of this agreement, AXTEL becomes the first major telecommunications company in Mexico to use CFE's network as part of its expansion strategy," stated Alberto de Villasante, AXTEL's Negotiations, Alliances and Institutional Relations Executive Director.

The technology, known as Optical Ground Wire (OPGW), isolates and protects the fiber optic cables on the transmission towers to ensure reliability of offered services.
