The new lens uniquely delivered the high performance, ruggedness, flexibility and compactness required by a HUD camera designed to fit in a wide range of aircraft without modification therefore providing significant cost of ownership benefits.
The ruggised varifocal zoom lens provides variable field-of-view delivering optimised focusing on objects from infinity right down to an object placed just 35mm from the lens. The motorised iris facility in the zoom lens is ideal for the wide light level changes encountered in the air and captures the HUD symbology without the interference seen with CCD iris. The zoom lens was also modified to withstand the high levels of vibration, shock and electromagnetic interference static typically found in aircraft.
