JDSU to Highlight Latest Optical Communications Solutions at OFC/NFOEC 2014

JDSU today announced that it will highlight the latest solutions from its optical communications and network and service enablement portfolios at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optics Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA from March 11-13, 2014.

Conference attendees are invited to visit JDSU at booth #1315 in the South Hall at Moscone Center to see its latest offerings and learn about important product advancements that include:

T-BERD®/MTS-6000A, -8000 CSAM (100G Services Application Module). New 100G module that brings the most flexibility and versatility to 100G network testing. Previously, network engineers had to test 100G networks with large clunky equipment. The new CSAM module plugs into industry-leading JDSU T-BERD/MTS test instruments to create the smallest and most portable 100G test solutions for both out in the field and in the central office. Smaller and more portable test solutions are critical to ensuring a quality user experience as service providers upgrade their networks to 100G data rates.

New CFP4 LR4 module. Compact-form pluggable and long-reach modules are highly integrated transceivers required for high speed links within network infrastructures. JDSU's newest CFP4 module design reflects the latest industry standard for providing the smallest and most cost-effective form factor for 100G transmission speeds that reach 10 kilometers within network infrastructures.

Single-Slot and Twin 1X20 Super Transport Blade. Designed for high-capacity ROADM (reconfigurable optical add drop multiplexer) networks to ensure that network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) can scale to support the rapid growth and unpredictability of Internet traffic, while also addressing escalating power constraints within network centers.

Based on the JDSU Super Transport Blade platform, several performance enhancements to the latest offering include:

  • Incorporates new JDSU TrueFlex Twin WSS (wavelength selective switch) solution for next generation route-and-select architectures.
  • Increased WSS ports from 4 to 20 ports.
  • Three times the EDFA (erbium-doped amplifier) power.
  • Flex Spectrum capability to maximize fiber capacity that operates beyond 100G data rates.

Smaller and more efficient Tunable SFP+ Transceiver.
JDSU has made significant upgrades to its latest tunable SFP+ technology for 10G network interfaces. Tunable SFP+ solutions from JDSU allow network operators to flexibly switch from one wavelength to another to optimize network performance. Benefits of the latest version include:

  • Twenty percent reduction in power dissipation to respond to NEM requirements for components that use power more efficiently.
  • Compact size that is compliant with the latest SFP+ MSA (Multi Source Agreement) and takes up less valuable real estate in NEM's network equipment racks.

New pump lasers. Pump lasers are used in optical amplifiers within network infrastructures to regenerate weakened network signals traveling over long distances. In 2009, JDSU introduced the SP platform, a revolutionary pump laser design to help NEMs lower costs and power consumption in optical networks. Latest versions include:

  • 980 nanometer (nm) pump laser operating at 900 mW. Designed to significantly advance performance with a wider dynamic operating power range and high stability, even during dramatic changes in external temperatures. A variant is also available that reduces total pump power consumption by approximately 40 percent.
  • Raman pump laser operating at 600 mW. Industry's first Raman pump laser that operates up to 600mW within the 1,425 - 1,470nm range and up to 550mW in the 1,470 - 1,495nm range. A variant is also available that reduces total power consumption by 50 percent.

ONT-602. A compact and stand-alone 40/100G network tester that addresses space and cost challenges in test racks while delivering the same Ethernet and OTN (optical transport network) test capabilities of CFP2 test modules. Ideal for both research and development and production test environments where reduction in the size and cost of multiple instruments is critical.

New spectral modules. The most complete portfolio of high-resolution spectral modules for testing data rates of up to 400G in high-speed networks. Designed for the JDSU Multiple Application Platform (MAP) and T-BERD/MTS-6000A modular platforms, these highly compact modules enable deployments in lab, production and field network environments.
