Optical Polymer Research, Inc.
Optical Polymer Research, Inc. ( OPRI ), located in Gainesville, Florida, USA is a international research oriented company founded by Dr. Paul D. Schuman
(Ph.D. Fluorine Chemistry) in 1985.
Dr. Schuman has been involved in gas permeable polymer research for over 15 years with over 30 years experience in polymer chemistry. Dr. Schuman utilized his background in fluorine chemistry to develop one of the first fluorine-containing contact lens materials. OPERM F60(DK 62) went into production in 1984. OPERM F60 was issued a PMA by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and was approved to market in 1990. Since it's inception, OPERM F60 has received world wide acceptance and is the highest DK
(Diffusion Constant) of the many optical polymers OPRI has developed. It is available in clear and standard blue tint.
The OPERM 30 DK (31), a silicone acrylate used around the world for over ten years was approved to market by the FDA in March of 1996. This stable, stress free polymer has also enjoyed wide acceptance as a medium DK contact lens material. It's easy machinability combined with it's moderate oxygen transmission has made it the material of choice of many contact lens labs around the world. It's introduction into the USA market gives discerning practitioners a real "work horse" plastic to add to the lens materials available to their patients.
