Veeco’s TurboDisc MOCVD Systems Wins Multiple Orders in China

Veeco Instruments Inc. (Nasdaq: VECO), announced today that Sanan OptoElectronics of China has placed multiple tool orders for Veeco’s TurboDisc® Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) Systems to expand their manufacturing capacity of high brightness light emitting diodes (HB-LEDs).

SunPower Produces Full-Sized Solar Panel Featuring 20.4% Total Area Efficiency

SunPower Corp. (Nasdaq: SPWRA, SPWRB), a Silicon Valley-based manufacturer of high-efficiency solar cells, solar panels and solar systems, announced today that it has produced a world-record, full-sized solar panel with a 20.4 percent total area efficiency. The prototype was successfully developed using funds provided by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under its Solar America Initiative (SAI), which was awarded to SunPower approximately two years ago.

Study Shows Blue Light-Filtering IOL Installation Increases an Eye's Nutritional Component

Results of an important new study show that implantation of blue light-filtering intraocular lens (IOLs) at the time of cataract surgery increases a nutritional component of the eye, which may afford protection against the development and/or progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The study, conducted by leading ophthalmology and vision researchers from the Macular Pigment Research Group at the Waterford Institute of Technology, is published in the October 2009 issue of the high impact journal Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS).

AuthenTec Ships its 50 Millionth Fingerprint Sensor
