GL Communications Launches STM-1 MUX, Ideal for Fiber Optic Networks

GL Communications has launched its novel device STM-1 MUX which multiplexes and demultiplexes 63 E1 signals in an optical STM-1 path.

Mr. Vijay Kulkarni, CEO, GL, said that STM-1 MUX is an economical, 1U high, small, synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) multiplexer used in access and metro network applications for effective communication of conventional TDM and novel data communication. It incorporates 63 E1 TDM interfaces in 1U standard 19" platform with applications such as switching SDH and TDM point-to-point network transmission.

It can be utilised in several network types that include chain, point-to-point, hub, ring, and mesh networks. He added that 63 E1 signals are multiplexed into a STM-1 stream by the STM-1 MUX, with TU-12 cross-connect capacity. Being a regular and small SDH TDM device, the STM-1 multiplexer is ideal for applications requiring high-density E1 ports to interface with an SDH network via STM-1 fiber optic connections. The equipment can be controlled via the resident RJ-45 management interface on the device panel or via the embedded DCC channel within the STM-1 signal. When several 63 E1 over STM-1 multiplexers are organized to form a stack, an RS-485 bus may be utilized to combine the modules into a single controlled object. LCD screen and alarm indication lights are provided on the panel for task monitoring.

The STM-1 MUX features standard 63 E1 Mux specifications for point to point applications. The optical interface provides auto laser shutdown (ALS) function. It features time slot numbering and TUG3-TUG2-TU12 tributary channel numbering, STM-1 line clock, external, internal, and tributary clocking modes. The device incorporates LCD display for configuring the system and alarm, and also provides remote power-off alarming system. It facilitates online upgrading, installation, support, and consistency in operation.
