OFS and Furukawa Electric have announced the availability of new clad alignment FITEL S123 hand-held fusion splicer series in the global market. A complete range of rugged fusion splicers such as the FITEL S153 Active Clad Align fusion splicer and the FITEL S178 Hand Held Core Align fusion splicer, which were earlier introduced in 2010, are now complemented by the FITEL S123 fusion splicer.
The fusion splicers have a metal body frame that provides both speed and durability in a smaller and lighter hand-held design. The fusion splicers are also supported with rubber corners, which improve impact and shock resistance and offer protection in demanding environmental conditions. The splicer delivers rapid heating at about 25 seconds and rapid splicing at about 13 seconds with low loss for a single fiber. The splicer is compatible with the Diamond splice-on-connector (SOC) and the Seikoh Giken and is available for all LAN, METRO and FTTx fibers.
The FITEL fusion splicers are also dust and water resistant, while the S123 fusion splicers can be easily maintained as a result of mirror free alignment system.
General Manager of Optical Connectivity Solutions, Linda Dembowski, said that the S123 fusion splicer offers a low-cost solution with its enhanced heating time and rugged design, and is suitable for last mile applications.
