IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ:IXYS), a leader in power semiconductors for power conversion and motion control applications, announced today the introduction of the PCX-7451 High Powered Laser Diode Driver by its Colorado division.
The PCX-7451 is an air-cooled, high power pulsed current source designed to drive diode lasers, bars and arrays. It delivers current pulses variable from 20A to 225A, pulse widths variable from 25 microseconds to 5 milliseconds, with rise times and fall times of 5 microseconds to 1 millisecond, and pulse repetition frequencies variable from single shot to 5 KHz with duty cycles limited by total power dissipation. High power pulse performance and waveform quality are achieved utilizing several key IXYS components including the power MOSFETs IXTQ50N20P, IXFH50N20, and driver IC's IXDI409SI and IXDN404SI.
Independent rise and fall time settings from 5 microseconds to 1 millisecond can be made either remotely or directly from the front panel providing users with the ability to optimize pulse performance for specific load characteristics including scientific experimentation, diode characterization and product quality applications.
A microprocessor-controlled front-panel provides individual control of each electronic function, while the backlit display provides immediate visual confirmation of all operating parameters, including the set-points for current, amplitude, pulse width, repetition frequency, duty cycle, as well as error and fault messages. The front panel controls allow the user to set pulse width and frequency independently, or to set frequency and duty cycle, which then adjusts the pulse width accordingly. Front panel BNC connectors provide current and voltage monitors which can be used to monitor the output pulse. An additional front panel BNC provides a leading edge synchronization signal enabling users to easily use the PCX-7451 in combination with other instruments and equipment for timed experiments, data taking and other synchronized events.
In addition to stand-alone operation, the PCX-7451 can be externally triggered and is equipped with an RS232 interface - standard.
