Zygo's Optical Unit Awarded Contract to Make Advanced Helmet Mounted Displays

Zygo Corporation (NASDAQ: ZIGO), a worldwide supplier of optical metrology instruments and high precision optical systems, today announced that its Optical Systems Division has been awarded a multi-million dollar manufacturing contract to produce Advanced Helmet Mounted Displays (AHMD) for the L-3 Communications Link Simulation and Training division in support of the US Air Force F-16 aircrew training program.

The F-16 aircrew training program represents the first time ZYGO's AHMD will be deployed for jet fighter training programs, representing a new application for the product. Commented John Stack, President of ZYGO's Optical Systems Division, "ZYGO's AHMD provides industry leading performance and ergonomics for today's most demanding flight simulator applications. This was demonstrated by the Air Force requirements for a system that could deliver high visual acuity and field of view while providing a lightweight balance platform necessary to train pilots over an extended period of time." The AHMD is also currently being used by the US Army for advanced helicopter training.

The AHMD was developed by ZYGO's Electro-Optics Group, which provides state of the art optical systems to the defense, life sciences, and industrial markets.
