Kyocera Mita America Releases Advanced Applications for its MFPs

ColorLock, AccessLock Offer Organizations Control of Device Accessibility for a Streamlined Approach to MFP Usage

Kyocera Mita America, Inc., one of the world's leading document solutions companies, today announced the availability of two advanced applications, ColorLock and AccessLock, utilizing its HyPAS (Hybrid Platform for Advanced Solutions) technology for select Kyocera multifunctional products (MFPs). With these new applications, organizations can have better control at the device level to manage color usage and access to the specific device functions, including printing, scanning and faxing.

Designed to address the growing transition from black-and-white to color document imaging solutions, ColorLock is a device management application that allows organizations to control access to color functions. This is achieved by offering a log-in screen that requests users to enter a passcode before they can use the MFP and only allows color capabilities to authorized users. By allowing network administrators to designate which users can access color, businesses can implement color capabilities to their work environment while controlling the associated costs of color consumables.

For organizations seeking to enhance efficiency without compromising job-specific accessibility, AccessLock allows organizations, through Active Directory Authentication, to offer the use of device functions based on parameters set by the network administrators. By allowing individuals to use tasks necessary for their job function while curtailing access to other device functions, AccessLock enables companies to promote responsible device usage while addressing a broad range of user needs. A “Public Access” Button is available for making black & white scans and copies.

“The release of ColorLock and AccessLock are applications that directly address the device management concerns of today’s work environment,” said Akisa Matsuda, director, software solutions, Kyocera Mita America. “Many organizations are eager to promote efficient and cost effective device usage through applications that address an array of user and administrative requirements. Through the availability of our growing portfolio of HyPAS applications, we are supporting the business need for both increased productivity as well as cost saving opportunities that simultaneously respect individual user requirements and the concerns of network administrators.”

Introduced in 2008, Kyocera’s HyPAS offers Java-based and Web Services-based Software Development Kits (SDKs), and delivers a broad range of options for enabling Kyocera MFPs to seamlessly integrate and operate in a specific business environment. Additionally, HyPAS provides an open and flexible platform, enabling advanced integration with systems already implemented within an enterprise.

Java, a programming language commonly used in mobile applications, such as cell phones, provides the capability to embed features and applications within the document imaging device itself. By embedding Java applications within Kyocera MFPs, existing feature sets can be extended with more advanced, feature-rich, server-less capabilities - thus delivering seamless integration and advanced control capability.

By adopting industry standard protocols such as SOAP/XML, HyPAS Web Services offers programmers a developer-friendly environment. Web Service applications provide system integrators with flexibility and interoperability because they can be implemented on a wide range of platforms, using almost any programming language. By combining two technologies, HyPAS delivers expanded versatility and capability.
