Alloptic Announces Availability of New Range MicroNode RFoG Optical Networking Units

Alloptic Extends Its Leadership in the RFoG Market With Next-Generation Managed MicroNode R-ONUs

Alloptic, a global leader in the development of RF over glass (RFoG) and passive optical networking (PON) solutions for CATV, telecom, and private network operators worldwide, today announced the availability of a new range of MicroNode™ RFoG optical networking units (ONU): the 1000 series Managed MicroNode™ RFoG ONU. The Alloptic Managed MicroNode enhances the industry’s leading R-ONU with remote monitoring and control capabilities.

Even though the R-ONU is the critical optical enabler in an RFoG architecture, it has traditionally been an unmanaged device. With the Alloptic Managed MicroNode™ RFoG ONU, service providers now have the ability to cost-effectively monitor ONU operating parameters as well as remotely enable and disable service. With this control, service connects and disconnects are achieved without a service dispatch or truck roll, significantly decreasing operational costs and decreasing theft-of-service losses.

Managing an RFoG ONU is a valuable tool in many ways. It is important for troubleshooting and also to support the growing desire to manage every element in the network. Remote service control saves the tangible cost of a truck roll and frees that truck and technician to focus on higher value activities. Maximizing access to network status information not only facilitates ongoing operating improvements but also leads to improved customer satisfaction and reduced churn.

“The Managed MicroNode products take RFoG ONUs to a new level,” says Shane Eleniak, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Alloptic. “This is another example of how Alloptic is leading the advancement of RFoG technology, enhancing its benefits and increasing the cost-benefit model of RFoG-based FTTx solutions.”

The Alloptic Managed MicroNode™ RFoG ONU has been recognized with a perfect 5 out 5 in Broadband Gear Report’s Diamond Technology Review 2009. New technology is rated by a panel of top MSO engineering leaders on the basis of how well it increases the performance, speed, reliability, and profitability of their networks.
